What is an Antique Cushion Cut Diamond?
The antique cushion cut diamond is very different to the modern version of the cushion cut diamond. The shape of their perimeter is the main commonality. The antique (or old mine) cushion cut diamond will always have a culet that can be seen when looking through the table of diamond. Also, it is quite common for them to have a much smaller table surface than the modern version of the cushion cut diamond. The crown and pavilion in these older diamonds tend to be a lot higher and deeper, though this is not always the case.
It is quite common for the perimeter of antique diamonds to be a little oblong. These diamond weren’t mass produced and the diamond cutters cut each individual diamond for the maximum brilliance. Each antique diamond is a one-of-a-kind stone and it is that, among other reasons, that gives them such a strong appeal today, more than 100 years after they were originally cut.
