A picture may be worth a thousand words, but words are often still necessary to educate a reader as to what to look when you’re drawn in by those beautiful jewelry pictures. And when it comes to antique jewelry, dedicated blogs offer a wealth of knowledge and fascinating information.

In addition to expanding our own Vintage Jewelry Blog and Vintage Education Page, we at Estate Diamond Jewelry love to peruse other jewelry blogs. Following other knowledgeable voices in the industry ensures that we’re always updated with the market and the current trends.

The following are some of the best blogs for antique jewelry enthusiasts of all levels. These jewelry bloggers are both entertaining and informative.

1. Gem Gossip

First up on our list, we have Gem Gossip.

Gem Gossip is a fabulous antique jewelry blog that covers everything from trends in celebrity jewelry to antique and period jewelry, and interviews with exclusive designers. Gem Gossip interviewed us at Estate Diamond Jewelry last year, and we were very happy to meet Danielle and collaborate with her. The Gem Gossip website also covers a vast amount of information related to vintage jewelry. Her attention to detail and passion for the topic has truly earned our highest recommendation. Both the Gem Gossip website and Instagram account are amazing resources for antique and vintage jewelry.

We reached out to Danielle to ask her what inspired her to get into the vintage jewelry world. Here is her reply:

“I was born a collector–I get my love for jewelry from my paternal grandma and my obsession with collecting things from my maternal grandma. I took this passion seriously after moving to TN ten years ago, and that’s when I first started Gem Gossip.”

2. Diamonds in the Library

Diamonds in the Library is an innovative blog that combines beautiful vintage jewelry with literature (and their respective period books). This unique blog is run by Becky, who has had a professional career in literature and now uses her unique expertise to recommend fabulous reads, as well as fantastic jewelry.

Expect to read a lot about jewelry and expect to learn a lot. Each article is intriguing and enjoyable to read!

We also collaborated with Becky in the past. Click here to read the article.

We reached out to Becky to ask her what inspired her to get involved with blogging about vintage jewelry. Here is her reply:

“I actually became a jewelry blogger by accident. I’ve been a writer my whole life (I was first published in a magazine at the age of 14), but I never expected to go into social media. Five years ago, I was managing a publication of banking regulations for the Federal government, and the creative part of my soul was dying. I wanted a side project that I could get excited about, one that would help me remember that writing could be fun.

I’d already built a bit of a following on Pinterest, where I was tracking down and saving interesting jewelry online. I decided to branch out from there to an actual blog; I didn’t have any career aspirations in this direction at the time, I was just looking for a fun hobby. Loved it so much that I left my day job a little less than three years ago and I’m having the time of my life running Diamonds in the Library as a full-time business.”

3. Dearest Blog

This entry on our list differs slightly in that it is behind a paywall. Dearest is an antique jewelry monthly newsletter written by industry veteran Monica McLaughlin. She describes her blog as “an irreverent but loving investigation into the history and craftsmanship of antique jewelry”. Many of the items featured have interesting histories and backstories, which you’ll be able to read about in-depth. Expect to learn about highly unique pieces of antique jewelry that you’ve probably never seen anything like before.

Whether or not you choose to subscribe, the archive features several articles that are free to read, so have a look around. It’s bound to be a fascinating read.

4. Sam’s Antique Blog

Although a newer blog, Sam’s Antique Blog offers a diverse array of educational pieces on antique and vintage jewelry. Sam’s articles are both easy to read and packed with little-known facts, which makes for a captivating reading experience.

We reached out to Sam and Terry from Sam’s Antique Blog and asked them what inspired them to get into the antique jewelry blog world:

Our inspiration behind Sam’s Antique Blog was to educate the masses on the unique and exciting experience that’s involved in antique jewelry. We also noticed a learning gap, and we decided to write informative articles that would help explain the fundamentals of vintage jewelry.

5. Christie’s Auction House

A name like Christie’s really needs no introduction, but we’ll give it one anyway. Christie’s is a world-leading art and luxury auction house that’s been in business since the 18th century. In addition, they have sold more than half of the most important single-owner collections ever. Their online site features a segment dedicated to stories and news and there you’ll find a robust collection of articles on antique jewelry related topics.

In addition to features on some of the most well-known luxury jewelry pieces, they also provide informative guides on iconic, well-established brands within the antique jewelry space, such as Tiffany’s, Cartier, and Van Cleef and Arpels.

6. Found in the Jewelry Box

Found in the Jewelry Box is another of our favorite blogs dedicated to antique jewelry. Created by GIA accredited jewelry professional Danielle Olivia Tefft, a self described vintage and antique jewelry freak, the blog features a wide range of articles discussing vintage jewelry. Her passion for the topic really comes through in her writing, and her jewelry guides provide informative and helpful information. We really like how she handpicks unique items to showcase and dives into the backstories where applicable.

7. Fortuna

For this entry, we’re highlighting another auction site, Fortuna, which specializes in fine jewelry and watches. A quick perusal of their blog reveals a whole slew of well-written, educational articles about luxury pieces of vintage jewelry. You’ll find a dearth of information on everything from the most iconic jewelry designs to the most famous cursed jewels in history.

8. Ageless Heirlooms

The site’s been active since 2006 so there’s plenty of information available. You can scroll endlessly through a wide variety of posts that offer everything from educational information, to buying tips, to entertaining reads.

If you’re fascinated by all things history, you’ll likely enjoy the articles on some otherwise obscure topics, such as a post dedicated to old jewelry catalogs from the 1930s or articles showcasing ancient Egyptian heirlooms. Other unique items showcased include a 1914 guide for gem buyers, famous tiaras, and intricate antique pins and brooches.
